Nikola Popović

INSAIT, Research Scientist

Nikola Popović is a Research Scientist at INSAIT, where he works on building next-generation spatial intelligence systems that understand and act in complex environments through multi-modal reasoning. His goal is to enable transformative advances in the automation of human-made environments through intelligent multi-agent collaboration, in which mobile robots will work alongside humans supported by augmented assistance. On the technical side, he is interested in developing systems for multi-modal reasoning over 3D maps, egocentric and exocentric video feeds, digital twins, and operational documents, enabling continuous, online execution of environment-level goals.

Nikola received his PhD from the Computer Vision Lab at ETH Zurich under the supervision of Prof. Luc Van Gool and Dr. Danda Pani Paudel, with a focus on perception and 3D reconstruction. During his doctoral studies, he also conducted a research internship at Meta Reality Labs in Zurich, working on 4D reconstruction. Prior to that, he was a Teaching Associate at the School of Electrical Engineering, University of Belgrade, where he completed his BSc and MSc studies in signal processing and control theory. He is a long-time member of the organizing committee of PSIML.
